Mary Louise "Mary Lou" Metzger, 93, Topeka, passed away Monday, April 18, 2022.
Mary Lou was born September 16, 1928 in Topeka, the daughter of Charles and Grace Marie (Glover) Martin.
She attended Randolph Elementary, Boswell Junior High and graduated from Topeka High School. She graduated from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority.
She taught school at Dodge City Junior High and Junior College; State Street School in Topeka; Hawthorn School in Beverly Hills, CA; Palmer School in Colorado Springs, CO; Activities Director at the Union Building at both the University of Kansas and Washburn University.
She was a previous member of First Presbyterian Church.
Mary Lou married James Howard Metzger in Topeka at the First Presbyterian Church on December 21, 1962. They lived in their West Hills home for 55 years. Her husband preceded her in death on June 26, 2017. Survivors include their son, James Christopher "Jamey" Metzger, Topeka; and nieces, Paula Strayer, Sue Johnson and Carla Kaup. She was preceded in death by a sister, Marjorie Hicks Snyder; brother, Charles Albert Martin, Jr; and nieces, Jean Gregory; and nephew, Charles H. Martin.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at the Mount Hope Cemetery Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Chapel one hour prior to the service.
