Mary Whitcraft Porter, 101, of Topeka, passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2020. She was born on December 26, 1918 in the Pleasant Grove neighborhood near Holton.
Mary graduated from Netawaka High School and Stricklers Business College. She retired from Security Benefit Group as an Assistant Claims Director in 1983 after 30 years of service. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and was active in the United Methodist Women organization until failing health. She was also a member of the American Business Women Association for many years.
Mary married Vernie Porter in 1942. They later divorced.
Survivors include children, Bill Porter, Beverly (John) Bicknell and Sandy Porter, seven grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, twenty great-great-grandchildren, nephew, Terry (Betty) Brewer and niece, Vickie Brewer and her cousins, Willard (Betty) Ronald, Margaret Utz and Joanna (Bill) Hines.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, son, Tom, grandson, Tom, Jr., her brother, Paul who was killed in action during WWII and her siblings, Winifred Whitcraft Brewer and Pauline (Bill) Whitcraft Frink.
As per Mary's wishes, cremation is planned and private inurnment will take place in Holton Cemetery at a later date.
