Maureen Ann O'Connor Erickson, 97, of Topeka, passed away Monday, January 5, 2009.
She was born July 13, 1911 in Atchison, Kansas, the only child of John E.
and Hilda M. (Spatz) O'Connor. She attended Sacred Heart School in
Atchison, Mt. Saint Scholastica Academy and College from which she
graduated in 1935. Maureen spent her life as an educator and was
involved with Menninger Family Care. Maureen was a member of
Washburn Faculty Wives, St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary and
numerous other community groups. She was a 56 year member of Most Pure
Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Topeka.
Maureen married Charles (Dee) Erickson on December 21, 1935 in
Atchison, KS. He preceded her in death on September 22, 1985.
Survivors include her children, Rev. John M. Erickson, Mark D. Erickson
(Sue), Hilda A. Enewold (Rick) all of Topeka; three granddaughters, Anne
Starbuck (Scott) of Topeka, Monica McBride (John) of Omaha, NE and
Amy Marhoefer (Peter) of Lake Forest, IL; and great-grandchildren,
Nicholas, Natalie, and Leah Starbuck and Brett and Megan McBride.
Mrs. Erickson was cremated. A Memorial Mass will be at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 9, 2009. Private entombment will be at Mt. Hope Mausoleum, Topeka. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Most Pure Heart of Mary Building Fund, 3601 SW 17th, Topeka, KS 66604 or to Dee Erickson Scholarship Fund at Washburn University, 1729 SW MacVicar, Topeka, KS 66604. Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel is assisting the family.
