Max B. Covey, 81, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2018.
He was born December 11, 1936, in Lawrence, Kansas, the son of Basil and Mabel (Cutter) Covey.
Max graduated from high school in Nortonville, Kansas and Palmer Chiropractic College in Davenport, Iowa. He also worked as a Registered Respiratory Therapist at St. Francis Hospital for nine years then transferred to the Colmery-O'Neil VA Medical Center, where he retired after 27 years of service.
Max had an outstanding ability to easily make friends and bring smiles to others. He was a talented basketball player in his youth and loved to play tennis. He was also an avid KU fan.
In 1959, Max married Bette Dettman. They later divorced.
Survivors include sister, Donna (Don) Turner; and niece, Julie Turner.
Max was cremated and private services will be held at a later date at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery & Mausoleum in Topeka, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association of the Central States, 2400 Troost Avenue, Suite 4300, Kansas City, Missouri 64108-9736.
