Max McCord, 82, of Topeka, passed away on Monday, April 9, 2007 at a Topeka hospital. He was born on April 9, 1925 in Topeka, the son of Arthur and Elsie McCord. He lived most of his life in Topeka. He attended Highland Park High School. Max was an Army veteran of WWII, serving in Co. E, 275th Regt, 70th Infantry Division "Trailblazer" , where he was a Machine Gunner. He served in the Battle of the Bulge. Max recived the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He was employed by the US Postal Service as an Area Maintenance Official for 30 years before retiring. He was a life member of the DAV, Philip Billard Post No. 1650, V.F.W. and the First Assembly of God Church. Max married Gladys Rutledge. They were divorced. Max married Marjorie J. Reynolds (Geiger) in September of 1970. She survives. Other survivors include one daughter, Sheila (McCord)Hefner of Topeka, John Geiger of Arizona, Dennis Geiger and Steve Geiger of Wichita, seven grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson one twin sister, Maxine Richards of Topeka and one brother, Wendel McCord. Max was preceded in death by one son, Mark McCord in March of 2000. Services will held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Assembly of God Church. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery where military honors will be presented by Philip Billard Post No. 1650, V.F.W. Max will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Friday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Memorial contributions may be given to First Assembly of God Church, 500 S.W. 27th St., Topeka, KS 66611.
