Melvin Skidgel

Melvin H. Skidgel passed away peacefully on March 9, 2010. Melvin was born on November 1, 1920, in Woodland, Maine. He was one of fifteen children, three of whom survive.

Melvin was a veteran of WWII and served in the Army Air Corps. He was retired from the U.S. Civil Service, and had been a member of Orient 51 A.F. & A. M.

Melvin married the former Muriel Pool in 1945 and they enjoyed over fifty-four years of marriage before her death in 1999. Melvin is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, David and Carol Skidgel of Overland Park, KS; his daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Steven Tonar of Hoyt, KS; his granddaughter and her husband, Dustin and Kevin Konen of Prairie Village, KS; his grandson, Michael Skidgel of Overland Park, KS; and his companion, Betty Severtson of Topeka.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m on Friday, March 12 at Dove Cremation & Funeral Service, 4020 SW 6th, Topeka. Visitation will be one half hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Papan's Landing Senior Center, 619 NW Paramore, Topeka, KS 66608.
