Merilee Larson, a beloved wife and mother, passed away on November 22, 2024 at the age of 74, in Topeka, Kansas. Born on April 6, 1950, in Emporia, Kansas, Merilee’s life was a tapestry woven with rich experiences, remarkable achievements, and the unwavering love of her family.
As a trailblazer in her career, Merilee served as the CEO/Director of Sheltered Living, where she dedicated herself to improving the lives of those in need. Her passion for service and her leadership were where her professional legacy truly shone through, affecting countless individuals through her hard work and commitment to care.
Education was always important to Merilee, and among her proudest accomplishments was obtaining her master’s degree while raising her son, Kelly. She balanced the demands of motherhood with academia, showcasing her incredible determination and strength. Merilee’s significant contributions included being the mastermind behind the beloved Festival of Trees, an event that beautifully highlighted her commitment to the community.
Merilee cherished family gatherings, always seeking to bring loved ones together with warmth and hospitality. She had various interests that brightened her life, including crafting, sewing, making pens, cooking, and gardening. Her ability to create beauty in all forms - whether through a handmade gift, a delicious meal, or a flourishing garden - was a testament to her nurturing spirit.
Merilee is survived by her loving husband, Richard Larson, and their son, Kelly (Sherry) Larson and brothers Neven Thompson and Ivan Thompson. Together, they shared countless memories, laughter, and love, forming an unbreakable bond that will continue to inspire those touched by her spirit.
While her father, Leslie Thompson, mother, Maude Thompson (Whitmore), and brother Leslie Thompson have preceded her in death, Merilee's legacy lives on through her family and the many lives she impacted throughout her journey.
A Celebration of Life honoring Merilee Larson will be held at 2pm, December 5, 2024, at Dove Cremations & Funerals - Southwest Chapel, located in Topeka, Kansas.
Merilee’s kindness, creativity, and dedication to her family and community will forever be remembered and cherished.
