Mertin Jerome Fordham, 61, of Topeka passed away March 17, 2016. He was born in Charleston, South Carolina to Jerry B. and Sarah (Williams) Fordham on February 13, 1955. He attended high school at Burk High in Charleston and graduated in 1973. He entered the Army in 1973 and retired at Ft. Riley, Kansas after serving 20 years. He served in Alaska, three tours in Germany, Georgia and Louisiana. He moved to Topeka in 1993 and worked for the US Postal Service as a letter carrier for 20 years. He received his Bachelor's degree from Friends University in Human Resources in 2004. He married Sharon Fordham on September 23, 1985 at Anchorage, Alaska.
He enjoyed watching movies, attending KC Chiefs games and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Fordham; his son, Shy Warner (Marcie); grandchildren, Madison and Tyler Warner; and his siblings, Jerry Fordham, Jr., Virginia Moultrie, Fred Fordham, James Fordham and Jessie Fordham. He was preceded in death by his parents and 4 brothers, Melvin Fordham I, Mervin Fordham II, Robert Fordham and Johnny Fordham.
Memorial services will be held Monday, March 21, 2016 at Mt. Hope Cemetery and Funeral Chapel at 3:00 p.m. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place March 26, 2016 at Sunset Memorial Cemetery at Charleston, South Carolina.
