Michael D. Schneider, 87, of Topeka, passed away on Sunday, December 30, 2012 at a Topeka hospital. He was born March 10, 1925 in Burlington, KS, the son of Dennis M. and Ethel F. Corbin Schneider.
He was a Navy veteran of WWII, receiving the Victory Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and the Philippine Liberation Campaign Ribbon. Michael was employed by the Santa Fe Railroad as a carman for 40 years before retiring on June 30, 1987. He was a member of Topeka Baptist Church.
Michael married Irene A. Kraft on November 26, 1946 in Emporia. She preceded him in death on April 24, 2009. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Anthony Schneider. Survivors include five children, Bob (Lynda) Schneider of Derby, Darrel (Carol) Schneider of Wichita, Betty (Carl) Kelly and Joyce (Maurice) Towne, both of Topeka and John (Rhonda) Schneider of Hoyt, ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday in the Mount Hope Mausoleum Chapel. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. Michael will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel.
