Michael Edward Juergens, 59, of Topeka, passed away on March 24, 2013 at his home. He was born in Storm Lake, Iowa to Leonard and Jean (Neihls) Juergens on December 25, 1953. He grew up in Kansas City, Kansas and graduated from Rosedale High School.
He served in the US Navy from 1972 through 1975 aboard the U.S.S. Saratoga. He was honorably discharged as a petty officer first class and was awarded a National Defense Service Medal. He was extremely proud of his service to his country.
He was an avid fan of K.U. Basketball, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Kansas City Royals. He enjoyed reading books, painting, taking walks in the snow, and playing with and caring for his grand-dogs, Scrappy, Mina and Baby. He always had a smile on his face and loved bringing happiness and laughter to others. He lived life to the fullest and always kept his family close to his heart.
Mike will be missed greatly by his family. His kind heart and positive outlook on life will help the family remember the remarkable man that he was.
Mike was married to Kathy (Juergens) Ellis for 22 years and later married Nancy Shepard and divorced.
Mike is survived by his daughters, Michelle Juergens of Overland Park, KS, and Jennifer (Juergens) Pleasant of Topeka, KS; and his brother, Gregory Juergens of Acworth, GA.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Leonard H. Juergens, mother, Doris Jean (Neihls) Juergens and brother, Steven Mark Juergens.
To celebrate Mike's life, his family will receive guests at Dove Cremation & Funeral Service on Saturday, March 30, 2013. Visitation will begin at 2:00pm. Memorial Service will be from 3:00pm to 4:00pm. Military honors will be presented by the Kansas Army National Guard.
