Michael Ray Hathaway

March 9, 1958 — July 9, 2021

Michael (Mike) Ray Hathaway, peacefully passed away on July 9th, 2021, in Topeka, KS.

He was born on March 9th, 1958 in Topeka, KS to Raymond E. "Dusty" and Janet Young (Beadman). He was later adopted by David A. Hathaway, after his mom remarried. He attended Topeka West High School and graduated in 1976. He went on to receive a Certificate of Auto Mechanics from Kaw Area Vocational Technical School.

Mike was employed by Capital Tile, LLC, as Lead Custodian, a company owned by, his brother Pat, and cousin, Ben Walker. Heading to work had been the highlight of his day, for the past 7 years. He received services, and participated in PACE, through Midland Hospice Care, of Topeka, KS.

In his early years, Mike could walk about a mile on his hands, including going up and down stairs, had a whistle that could nearly break an eardrum, and was known for being a dare devil. He didn't know a stranger, and was often the life of the party.

He later had a passion for planting and maintaining rose bushes, cleaning his car, collecting tools, and tinkering with all objects that had motors.

His hobbies included smoking, drinking coffee, riding his bicycle, listening to KU games on the radio, and pulling the kids in his tractor trailer around the yard.

The immediate family was usually referred to using their first and middle names, including his great-nieces, whom he adored.

Survivors include his brother, Patrick Hathaway SR (Valery), of Prairie Village, KS; nieces, Heather Cummings (John) and Ginger Hathaway; nephews, Patrick Hathaway JR (Keeli) and Dallas Hathaway (Alana), all of Topeka, KS; great-nieces and nephews, Kirstyn, Jordan, Tabor, Zadiouz, Amira, Logan, Lily, Emilie, Haylee, Zaylee, Kaysley and Jimma; aunts, Delores Smith, of Topeka, KS and Deanna Walker, of Beaumont, TX; step-siblings, and several cousins.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Janet L. Hathaway-Campbell; father Dusty Young; adopted dad, David A. Hathaway; step-father Galen Campbell; a niece, and a great-nephew.

A graveside ceremony will take place on Friday, July 23rd, 2021, at 1 P.M., located at Memorial Park Cemetery, 3616 SW 6th Ave, Topeka, KS. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice Care of Topeka, KS.
