Michael Eugene Horton, 52, of Topeka, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Thursday, September 9, 2021.
He was born May 10, 1969, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Donald Eugene and Virginia Ann (Gabe) Horton. He attended Topeka Christian Academy and graduated from Topeka High in 1987 and attended Washburn University.
Michael was employed by the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier.
Mr. Horton was a member of NALC Branch 10, serving as vice president and president.
Michael married Christine Pardee on August 21, 1993 in Topeka, Kansas. She survives, along with his children Gabriel Horton (Arynne) and Alex Horton of Beatrice, NE, Faith Horton, Emma Horton, Nicholas Horton, Joshua Horton, William Horton, and Margaret Horton, all of Topeka; mother, Virginia Ann Horton; siblings Michelle Hickling and Jeff Horton (Keri). He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Horton, and brother-in-law John Hickling.
Michael loved his family, was a collector of all sorts, and was a connoisseur of resting - he loved to relax. His young adult indulgences were snow skiing and scuba diving. He also learned to play bass in the Christian rock band Fortress. But as Mike matured and his family grew, he invested in his children, perfected telling good jokes, pulling pranks and spreading joy by making others laugh.
A memorial ceremony will be held on Monday, September 20th at 4:00 PM at Faith Family Life Center, 3710 NW Topeka Boulevard in Topeka. The link to the online service will be at www.faithfamilylife.com
A visitation will be held on Sunday, September 19th from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Maranatha Baptist Fellowship, 4935 SW Burlingame Road in Topeka.
Memorial contributions may be made to either the Faith Family Life Center or Maranatha Baptist Fellowship.
