Michael LeShawn Payne, 35, of Topeka, passed away on January 22, 2025 at 6:15am.
He was born on January 22, 1990 to Mike and Pricilla (Wilson) Payne in Topeka, Kansas.
Michael worked as a Cook for Taco Bell on 29th St. in Topeka, KS. He also held a job at Burger King on California St. in Topeka, KS.
Michael lived in Topeka, Kansas. He was born at Stormont Vail. He came into this world fighting to live. He was born dead with his umbilical cord wrapped around his neck. An emergency C section was done and he was brought back to life. He overcame the odds by giving his all in everything he did. He was a helper, lover, friend, brother, son, and so much more. He overcame his past and obstacles that came before him. And with every breath he took, he kept on trying and trying to the very end.
He was preceded in death by his Great Grandfather, Henry Calhoun; Great Grandmother, Erilla Calhoun; Uncle Dean Calhoun.
Michael is survived by his mother; Pricilla (Alexander) Walker, son; Jeremiah Lindsey, daughter; Naaliya Payne, son; Nirvaan Payne, ex-girlfriend; Michelle Harris, grandmother; Lorene (Calhoun) Grant, mother-in-law; Kathryn Turner, sister; LaTasha Riley, RoTasha Grant, and Margret Grant; uncles; Darrell Lolar, Gerald Lolar, Raymond Grant, Charles Lolar, and Anthony Allen, aunt; Robin Calhoun and Crystal Allen, cousins; Eliajah Calhoun, Deyvon Grant, Paris Schofield, Pernell Schofield, Matthew Grant, Mikki Grant, Isaiah Calhoun, Dejah Brooks, Dezayiah. Corleon Grant. Host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Michael is also survived by his father Mike (Cassandra) Payne, sister; Candace & nephew Royce, brothers; Caleb & Cameron; grandmother; Norma Jean Fleming, aunt Sharon Payne, uncle Johnny Payne (deceased), and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025, 11:00 am at Dove Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave., where the family will receive friends one hour prior to service time with Bishop Patricia Blanks, officiating. Pastor Doctor Robin Darten with closing prayer. Burial will follow funeral services at Topeka Cemetery, 1601 SE 10th Ave, Topeka, Kansas 66607.
