Michael Shannon Pettit

Michael Shannon Pettit, 53, of Topeka, passed away at 6:49 p.m. on Wednesday August 16, 2023.
He was born August 25, 1969, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, the son of Michael L. and Teresa (Zwiesler) Pettit. He graduated from Highland Park High School in 1988.
Michael was employed by Lardner Cut Stone for the last 10 years.
Michael was engaged to Theresa McGinnis.
Survivors include his fiancé Theresa, his parents, his children; Keeli (Andrew) Jewell, Michael L., and Trinity Pettit, a brother, Matthew (Danielle) Pettit, a sister, Micki Pettit, many aunts, uncles, a niece, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Harold and Jeanie Pettit, and Robert and Bonnie Zwiesler, and an aunt, Roxanne Zwiesler.
Michael loved spending time with his family especially his children, laughing and enjoying life. He never knew a stranger. He was known for being down to earth, always around to listen and would remind you to take time to "smell the roses". A free spirit, lover of animals, nature and all the great outdoors, a loyal friend, an avid sports fan for the Dallas Cowboys and KU basketball teams. He had a love for music and shared that with his children. Quick with a movie quote to fit any situation. As much as he was a great football and baseball player, a natural born athlete, and a natural competitor. He was a great carpenter and could fix anything, even a bad day!
Honoring his wishes, Michael was cremated. A Celebration of Life will be held from 6:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m., Friday, September 1, 2023 at the Reynold's Lodge of Lake Shawnee, 3315 SE Tinman Cir, Topeka, KS 66605.
