Michel D. "Mike" Sterrett, 71, Topeka, passed away Sunday, November 4, 2012, at Midland Hospice House.
Mike was born September 1, 1941 in Clay Center, the son of Delbert and Ruah (Hahn) Sterrett.
He graduated from Clay County Community High School in 1959, where he excelled in several sports.
He was employed in sales with Capital Body & Equipment, Scherer Truck Equipment, and Knapheide Truck Equipment for over 40 years, retiring in 2010.
He was a KU Jayhawk basketball fan, an avid golfer enjoying annual golfing trips to Arizona, South Carolina, Oklahoma and Florida. He played Slow-pitch Softball for many years on several Topeka teams.
Mike married Lois Walters on May 6, 1962 in Riley. She survives. Other survivors include daughter, Shannon (Scott) Schenk, Topeka; daughter-in-law, Allison Sterrett, Heath, TX; 6 grandchildren; brother, Jim Sterrett, Gladstone, MO; and sisters, Jane Warren, Ozark, MO, and Nina Bray, Leavenworth. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Shane Jay Sterrett in 2011; and a sister, Jackie Schafer.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 8, 2012 at Fellowship Bible Church 6800 SW 10th. Burial will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Mike will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road after 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday and visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
