Mildred Doud

Mildred O. Doud, 73, Wakarusa, died Wednesday, May 12, 2004 at St. Francis Health Center.

She was born July 20, 1930 near Hardin, Ray County, Missouri, the daughter of William A.H. and Alvina C. Lutz Witte. She moved with her parents to Richland on March 5, 1944. She graduated from Berryton Rural High School in 1948.

Mrs. Doud was was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church, Norborne, MO, and was a charter member of Hope Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School, and was Sunday School Enrollment and Financial Secretary. She was Secretary-Treasurer of Aid Association for Lutherans from 1976 to 2002.

She was instrumental in forming the Riverside 4-H Club in southeast Shawnee County in October, 1947. She was the first secretary-treasurer of that club. Her four children were members of this club. She served as a project leader from 1966 thru 1986.

She worked as a secretary at the State Board for Vocational Education from Oct. 11, 1948 to Jan. 23, 1956, was Area Clerk at Soil Conservation Service, and in the transcribing bureau at the Santa Fe Motive Power Building from July, 1956 to April 2, 1965. She was a former secretary of the Pauline Co-Op Agri-wives.

She married Charles K. Doud, Jr. on May 24, 1953 at Hope Lutheran Church in Topeka. He survives.

Other survivors include her children, Vickie Ann Doud Falen of Scottsdale, AZ, Gary C. Doud of Lawrence, Cynthia Marie Doud Bervert of Topeka, and Galen C. Doud of Kent, WA, sisters, Darlene Holliday of Albuquerque, Wanda Rone of Sweet Home, OR, and Shirley Weideman of Berryton, and Sylvia Palenske of Alma, granddaughters, Jackie Falen of Scottsdale and Elizabeth Bervert of Topeka, and grandson, Christopher Bervert of Topeka.

Services will be 10:00 am Monday at Hope Lutheran Church. Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Berryton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hope Lutheran Church, 2636 SE Minnesota, 66605.

Mrs. Doud will lie in state from noon to 9 pm Sunday at Penwell-Gabel Highland Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6-7 pm.
