Mindy L. Willis

October 30, 1985 — February 22, 2017

Mindy L. Willis, 31, of Auburn, KS, passed away on February 22, 2017.

She was born on October 30, 1985 in Ruidoso, NM to Deanna D. Davis.

Mindy grew up in Chapman, KS and graduated from Chapman High School in 2004, then went on to enlist in the Kansas Air National Guard in the fall.

She deployed twice in support of Operation Enduring Freedom with 190th ARW Security Forces. When she returned home in July 2006, Mindy went on to earn her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Baker University and graduated May 2012. Mindy worked at St. Francis as a C.N.A. and a Phlebotomist during her time at Baker University.

She received her certification from Kansas State Board of Nursing in January 2013. Mindy worked at the Topeka Correctional Facility as an R.N. for a year, and most recently was employed by Stormont Vail as an R.N. on the Post-Surgical floor. Mindy also served as a preceptor mentoring new nurses, and was always willing to take the "newbies" under her wing.

Mindy then went on to achieve higher military goals by receiving a commission from the Oklahoma Air National Guard 137th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron serving as a Flight Nurse. She was promoted to 1st Lieutenant in 2016.

She loved spending time with family and friends. She would take any opportunity to spend time with her nephew Maddox and served as an "adopted aunt" to the children of close friends – taking the kids to gymnastic lessons, the water park, the ice-skating rink, etc. She enjoyed working out, caring for her dogs, playing guitar, bantering with her brother, and doing kind deeds for those she loved.

Mindy is survived by her mother Deanna of Topeka, KS; a brother, Justin (Jessica) Davis, of Tuttle, OK; a nephew Maddox Davis, of Tuttle, OK; grandparents, Charlie and Joann Robinson, of Topeka, KS; a
God-daughter, Madelynn Norton, Chapman, KS; as well as several great-uncles, aunts, and second cousins, in Texas and Georgia.

She is preceded in death by her father, Mike Willis; grandfather, Tony Jenkins; great grandparents Melvin and Ann Means and Papa Jack Fitzgerald; and a great-uncle, Jackie Fitzgerald.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at East Side Baptist Church, 4425 SE 29th Street, Topeka. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 820 SW Auburn Road, Topeka.

Memorial contributions in Mindy's honor may be made to the Warrior's Best Friend Foundation, P.0. Box 1432, Liberty, Missouri 64069, and to the Kansas Nurses Foundation, 1208 SW Tyler Topeka, KS 66612.
