Minnie Mae Marks, 67, passed away Friday, July 14, 2006 in Wichita. She had been a teacher at Franklin Elementary School, and for Adult Education Classes, both in St. Louis. She was born on October 22, 1938, in Pickens AR, the daughter of Daniel and Josephine Davis-Marks. She attended school in Pickens, then later in Sikeston, MO. She attended the University of Missouri, St. Louis.
She was a member of the Baptist Church, a community mother, mentor, and friend. She welcomed all to her home. She met Joseph Johnson in St. Louis in 1963, forming a union of over 43 years. He survives. Other survivors include her mother, Josephine Marks, Little Rock, AR; Children, Freddie Mae Adams, Topeka, Chester Lee Marks, Virginia, Davy Lee Marks, Barbara Lechelle Marks, Donald Tyrone Marks, Tony Bernard Marks, and DeAngelis Marks, all of Topeka; sisters, Essie Young, Topeka, Dorothy Jean Bragg, Junction City, Tanzella Marks, Topeka,, Helene Reese, Dallas, Florence Thompson, Little Rock; brothers, Wallace Marks, Dumas AR, and Daniel Marks Jr., Grand Prairie, TX. She is also survived by a host of grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, a brother, Roosevelt Marks, and a son, Leon Curtis Davis. Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 20, 2006 at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel, with burial to follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery & Mausoleum, 3616 SW 6th. Street. Mrs. Marks will lie in state after 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, where the family will meet with friends from 6-8 p.m. The casket will remain closed
