Miriam L. Steves, 96, of Topeka, passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2007 at her home. She was born on September 1, 1910 in Galveston, TX, the daughter of Horace and Laura Stanford Long. She lived most of her life in Topeka. She was a homemaker for most of her life before she and her husband opened Steves Type Shop in College Hill. She was a member of Lowman United Methodist Church since 1918 where she was active with the youth group. She was also involved with Boy Scouts. She also enjoyed to sew. Family was very important to her and she remained involved in her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren's lives. Miriam married Harold W. Steves on June 30, 1931 in Topeka. He preceded her in death on March 30, 1981. She was also preceded in death by one son, Rodney L. Steves on August 23, 2005. Survivors include one daughter, Mary Alice Smith of Topeka, one son, Harold Steves, Jr., one daughter-in-law, Judy Steves of Topeka, seven grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. today at Lowman United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Lowman United Methodist Church, 4000 S.W.
