Moira Brouddus, 74, Topeka, passed away Wednesday, September 7, 2016.
Moira was born February 28, 1942 in County Offaly, Ireland, the daughter of Thomas and Annie Molloy.
She moved to the United States in 1960 and completed her High School education in Lawrence, KS.
She pursued nursing courses at Marymount College in Salina. While enrolled at Marymount, she worked at St. John's Hospital in Salina. Later, she became the hotel manager at the Holiday Inn on S. Broadway in Salina for many years.
She moved to Topeka in 1992 to serve as the catering manager at Washburn University. She served in that capacity for approximately 14 years. She enjoyed being on a college campus and working with the various departments, student and community groups. She often said, "Have cart, will travel" referring to the numerous daily food deliveries to different buildings on campus.
Her current position was housemother at Alpha Delta Fraternity at Washburn University where she had worked for 11 years. In her position, she served as a point of contact for the house, helped coordinate repair and service calls and collected the members' leases and house payments. In addition she served as a role model and gave motherly advice. She gave hugs to celebrate accomplishments and she gave hugs when life wasn't treating you right. She referred to the men of Alpha Delta as her "kids" and they affectionately referred to her as "MoBro" or MotherB.
Moira married Dave Brouddus, Jr. on August 22, 1964 in Salina. He died January 2, 1973.
Survivors include daughter Eileen Brouddus, Topeka, son, Thomas David (Gayla) , Sherwood, OR; and their children, daughters Megan and Anna Brouddus and son Aidan Brouddus, brothers, Sean (Marie) Molloy, Noel (Kathleen) Molloy; sister, Sarah Shevlin and many nieces and nephews all of Ireland. Her daughter, Ruth Brouddus (Shelly Martin) of Salina, passed away unexpectedly on September 8, 2016.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Inurnment will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Salina at a later time. A Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, September 16, 2016 followed by a visitation until 8:00 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road.
Memorials in her honor can be made to either the Washburn University Foundation, 1729 SW MacVicar Ave, Topeka, KS 66604 or the MacVicar Educational Foundation of Alpha Delta, P.O. Box 1383, Topeka, KS 66601. An annual scholarship is planned in her name by the MacVicar Foundation. Donations to either are tax deductible.
