Morris D. "Mo" Woelk, 73, Topeka, passed away on Monday, October 10, 2011 at his residence after a battle with cancer.
Morris was born August 15, 1938 in Goessel, the son of Arthur and Hulda (Buller) Woelk. He graduated from Goessel High School in 1956 and the Kansas School of Barbering in Wichita in 1959.
He served in the Army National Guard.
He began his career in barbering when he joined the Holliday Square Barber Shop, moving to Washburn View Barber Shop in 1964. He opened Touch of Class Hair Studio in 1975 in White Lakes Plaza. He retired in 2010 after 50 years of barbering.
He was a member of Countryside United Methodist Church.
Morris married Phyllis Burris on January 24, 2004. She survives. Other survivors include sons, Mark (Karen) Woelk, Lawrence; Greg Woelk, Topeka; daughter, Shelley (John)Wolfhope, Austin TX; step children, Kristy (Rick) Scharf, Tucson, AZ; Perry (Meredith) Young, Wichita; 10 grandchildrenand step-grandchildren; and sister, Maxine (John) Miller, McPherson. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 14, 2011 at Countryside United Methodist Church. Private family inurnment will be at a later date. Morris will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel after 3:00 p.m. on Thursday and visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
