Naomi Ruth Harris Kavel, 95, of Topeka KS., passed away on Thursday, January 17, 2008 at Aldersgate Village.
Naomi was born April 20, 1912 in Exeter, PA., the daughter of Hayes and Lily (Searfoss) Harris.
After completing high school in West Pittston, PA., she attended Bloomburg State Teachers College in Bloomsburg, PA. Naomi graduated in 1933 with a degree in Elementary Education.
Naomi married George Charles Kavel on December 29, 1934 in Scranton, PA. George died July 15, 1995.
While residing in Williamsburg, PA., she taught for 20 years in the Hollidaysburg, PA. School District. Retiring in 1971, she and her husband moved to Sarasota, FL., where she enjoyed playing golf until the age of 84.
Following the death of her husband, Naomi moved to Topeka, KS. and resided at Aldersgate Village for the past 10 years.
Survivors include sons, Dr. Karl Kent Kavel and wife, Marcia, Topeka; Dr. George Timothy Kavel and wife, Deanna, St. Simons Island, GA.; two grandchildren; Jennifer Desbien, Lindsborg, KS.; Christopher Kavel, Charlotte, NC.; three great grandchildren; and two sisters; Gertrude Walters and Hazel Gilroy. She was preceded in death by a sister, Amanda Murray.
Naomi was cremated and private family services will be held.
