Naomi Katherine Waterhouse-Johnson

June 15, 1996 — February 16, 2018

Naomi Katherine Waterhouse-Johnson, passed away February 16, 2018 at Stormont-Vail hospital of a sudden, acute illness. She was born, June 15, 1996 in Manhattan, KS; daughter of Mark S. Waterhouse and Julie C. (Perry) Waterhouse. No one should have to know what it is like to live without this beautiful woman in their lives. She was a force of nature, getting inhuman amounts of things accomplished and touching people's lives in the best way.

Naomi spent her childhood years in Manhattan, KS. She grew up in Topeka, KS. She attended Ross Elementary, Eisenhower Middle School, and Topeka High School. Her friends knew her as "Namsi" and "Nomers."Naomi was a superior student at Kansas University in Lawrence, Kansas. She studied under the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures. She was on track to graduate with a dual Japanese and Korean Language & Cultures degree with a minor in Teaching English as a Second Language. She was an instructor of English at Kyunghwa Middle, an all-girls Christian school in South Korea for 8 weeks in the summer of 2016; one year later, she spent four months studying abroad at J.F. Oberlin University in Tokyo, Japan. Her next step in life was pursuing a TESL Masters, and continuing to explore the world and make it a better place. She was a member of the Topeka First Free Methodist Church.

Naomi is survived by her husband of two and a half years, Paul R. Johnson of Topeka, KS; her mother and father; five siblings, Lewis O. Waterhouse IV (Stephanie) of Gladstone, MO; Rachel L. Waterhouse of Asheville, NC; Joshua M. Waterhouse (Heather) of Clarksville, TN; Christopher L. Waterhouse (Brittany) of Abingdon, MD; adoptive sister Crystal George of Topeka, KS; and five nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ronald L. Perry, Evelyn M. Waterhouse (Strutton), and Lewis O. Waterhouse II, and preborn sister, Jessica Waterhouse.

The family will receive visitors at the Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota, Topeka, KS on Tuesday, February 20 from 6:00-8:00 pm. Funeral services are at the First Free Methodist Church (3450 SE Indiana Ave. Topeka, KS) on Wednesday, February 21 at 11:00 am.
