Navois Leon Bearden, 71, of Topeka passed away May 2nd. He was born July 10, 1936 in Webb, MS to Oscar and Everlean (Moore) Bearden. In his young age his family moved to Charleston, MS, where he attended Tallahatchie County H.S. After school he enlisted in the U. S. Air Force and served twenty years. He later worked for the Santa Fe Railroad and retired in 1998. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he served on the Deacon Board, Trustee Board, in the choir and many other positions in the church. He married Bobbie Jean Smith Robinson, of Lawrence, KS March 29, 1959, she survives. One son, Deward, passed away June 17, 2002. Other survivors include two sons, Clinton N. Bearden (LeAnn) and Prentiss L. Bearden, Sr. (Crystal) both of Topeka, three sisters Tanzil Bearden of Charleston, MS, Evelyn Tensley and Bennie Gooden of Detroit, MI, six grandchildren, Leela, Tegan, Zed, Nicole, Prentiss Jr. and Montana, and a host of nieces and nephews. Mr. Bearden will lie in state after 3 p.m. Friday May 9th at the Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Service is planned at Calvary Baptist Church 433 Harrison, Topeka 11 a.m. Saturday May 10th. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
