Neil Francis Michael McKay, 81, of Topeka, passed away Monday, December 12, 2022.
He was born February 1, 1941, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, the son of Daniel and Lillian (Cockram) McKay. He graduated from D'Arcy Magee High School and received a bachelor's degree in accounting from San Jose State University. He served in the Air Force from 1963 to 1967.
Neil was employed by the Shell Oil Company, the Ernst and Ernst CPA firm, First Nationwide Savings, and Capitol Federal Savings where he retired as the Chief Financial Officer. He also sat on the board of directors for Federal Home Loan Bank for 13 years after retiring.
Neil married Cheryl Rae Grose on May 14th, 1966 in San Rafael, California. She survives, along with his daughters Heather Carswell of Topeka and Maureen Kamprath (David) of Emporia; grandchildren Kylie and Keira Carswell, Adam and Jacob Kamprath and Kaylyn Wynia; and his siblings Mary Seifred, Margaret Broden, Eileen Diggins, Patrick McKay and D'Arcy McKay. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Sheila, Daniel, Hugh, Timothy, Shaun and Maureen.
Neil was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church of Topeka.
Neil enjoyed golf, cooking, gardening and traveling.
Neil was cremated. There will be a memorial mass at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 7th at Christ the King Catholic Church, 5973 SW 25th Street in Topeka. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 6th at Dove Cremations and Funerals Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road in Topeka. Interment will be after the service at Mount Hope Cemetery, 4700 SW 17th Street in Topeka, followed by a reception from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Parkinson's Foundation, PO Box 5018, Hagerstown, MD 21741.
