Nellie Jane Lutz

Nellie Jane Lutz, 84, of Berryton, passed away Friday, May 20, 2011 at a Topeka care facility. She was born May 23, 1926 in Paola, the daughter of Claude P. and Jennie Cook Roberts. She resided in the Berryton community since 1944.

Nellie assisted her husband on the family dairy farm for many years. After his death, she went to work in food service. She attended the Berryton United Methodist Church where she was active in Ruths Circle.

Nellie married Harley H. Lutz in November of 1944. He preceded her in death in 1965. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Betty Beuchat, four sisters and two brothers. Survivors include one son, Gary D. (Janice) Lutz of Berryton, five grandchildren, Rachelle, Michelle, Marsha, Tonya and Jason, and five great-grandchildren, Jacob, Samantha, Brooklyn, Hailey and Jessica.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery southeast of Topeka. Nellie will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Berryton United Methodist Church, 7010 SE Berryton Rd., Berryton, KS 66409 or to Hospice Care of Kansas, 2900 SW Oakley Ave., Topeka, KS 66614.
