Nelson B. Carlson, 85, of Tecumseh, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka. He was born May 24, 1927 in Jetmore, KS, the son of Andy Edward and Clara P. Polson Carlson. Nelson was an Air Force veteran during the Korean War.
He and his father moved houses and buildings for 26 years in western Kansas. He had resided in the Tecumseh community since 1968. He was employed by Bob Florence Contractors, Inc. for many years before retiring in 1994.
Nelson was active with Boy Scout Troop No. 198 in Big Springs, the Military Vehicle Preservation Association Rolling Thunder Chapter of Topeka, the Aladdin Knights International, Capitol Post No. 1 of the American Legion and Carpenter's Union No. 1445 of Topeka.
Nelson married Jewell K. Sherrick on February 14, 1957 in Dodge City, KS. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Berni (Julee) Carlson of Tecumseh, Roni (Bonnie) Carlson of Burlingame, KS, one daughter, Tammie (Randy) Levin of Bristow, OK, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Graveside committal services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Garfield Cemetery, Garfield, KS. Nelson will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Midland Care, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606.
