Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Nelson J. Martir, 55, a resident of Topeka, KS will be Friday, May 4, at 11 a.m. at Assumption Catholic Church. Burial will take place at Leavenworth National Cemetery. Visitation will be May 4, from 9:30 until the time of service at the church. Nelson died on April 30, 2007 at Midland Hospice Care in Topeka, Kansas.
Nelson was born September 14, 1951 in Ponce', Puerto Rico, the son of Irma Castillo and Barnbe Martir.
Nelson was a military veteran and served in Vietnam. Later, he earned his Bachelor's degree in nursing from Washburn University and his MBA from Baker University in 2000. He was employed as a psychiatric nurse at several mental health facilities for over 25 years including the Topeka State Hospital, Valeo Behavior Health, Indian Trails, and Rainbow Mental Health Facility.
Survivors include one daughter, Jacqueline Martir, Tulsa, OK; three sons, Nelson A. Martir, Topeka, KS; Antonio R. Martir and Ricardo J. Martir, Irving, TX; one grand-daughter, Laila Carter, Tulsa OK; his mother, Irma Castillo; his brothers, Alejandro Martinez, Jr., and Edwin Martinez; his sisters, Yolanda Martinez and Sonia Martinez all of Bronx, New York. Two brothers and his father preceded him in death.
He also leaves many other family members and friends.
