Nelson L. "Ol Man" Burgen, 73, of Topeka died on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at his home. He was born on December 23, 1936 in Topeka, the son Kenneth W. and Hazel E. Stadley Burgen.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Leon was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years before retiring in 1991. He also owned and operated Ol Man Cycle for several years. He was a member of ABATE of Kansas.
Leon married Charlotte K. Jacobs on June 15, 1958 in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include three sons; Nelson Leon, II, Tracy L. and Troy L. all of Topeka, four grandsons, one great-granddaughter, three brothers; Kenneth L. Burgen of Topeka, Jerry L. Burgen of Lawrence and William L. Burgen of Medera, CA and one sister; LoDema L. Betsworth of Gilbert, AZ.
Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 5, 2010 at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Private inurnment will take place at a later date. Memorial contributions may be given to the Nelson Leon Burgen Memorial Fund c/o Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel, 2843 S.E. Minnesota Ave., Topeka, Kansas 66605.
