Nina Ruth (Sloan) Whitten, 75, Topeka, formerly of Summerville, SC, and Hillsboro, TX., passed away Friday, January 24, 2020 at Midland Hospice House.
Nina Duke was born April 13, 1944 in Hillsboro, TX., the daughter of Willie and Zelma (Jordan) Duke. She graduated from Peabody High School.
Nina married Jimmy D. Sloan and they later divorced. Survivors include their children, Vincent D. Sloan, Summerville, SC; and Kimberly Sloan (Richard) Flowers, Topeka; grandchildren, Christopher and Jadan Flowers; a sister, Wynelle M. Welch, New York; sister-in-law, Barbara Duke; niece, Kenya Duke-Owen; and many dear relatives and friends . She is the widow of Laney Whitten, Jr. of Charleston, SC. He died in 2004. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Willie Ralph Duke.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 30, 2020 at the Dove Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at the Dorsey-Keatts Funeral Home in Hillsboro, TX.
Dove Southwest Chapel is assisting with Topeka arrangements.
