Noda A. Preston, 82, of Topeka, passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka.
She was born March 2, 1933 in Norman, Oklahoma, the daughter of Loyd D. and Florine Parnell Bettis. She graduated from Norman High School and graduated from Oklahoma University in 1955 and completed her Master's in Social Work from Columbia University in New York.
Noda was a member of the Highland Park United Methodist Church where she was active with the Youth and Quilters group. She was a long time member of the National Association of Social Workers.
Noda married William "Bill" Preston on June 14, 1958 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He survives. Other survivors include their children, Darrell Preston of Dallas, Texas, Glenn Preston and Jeff Wheeler of Kansas City, Missouri, Steve Preston and Carla Forshee Nelson of Topeka and one granddaughter, Maddie Preston. Also surviving are adopted children, Colleen Neel Miser, Kevin Miser and Liz Miser all of Topeka.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, August 8, 2015 at the Highland Park United Methodist Church. Graveside committal services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 10, 2015 at the IOOF Cemetery, Norman, Oklahoma. Noda will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. Friday, August 9, 2015 at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Highland Park United Methodist Church, 2914 SE Michigan Ave., Topeka, Kansas 66605 or to the organization of the donor's choice. Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel is assisting the family.
