Norma Jean Holmes

Norma Jean Holmes, 83, of Topeka, died Saturday, July 16, 2011 at Midland Hospice Care. She was born May 25, 1928 in Topeka, the daughter of Frank and Crystal Morgan.
Norma Jean married Alvin Holmes, Sr. on March 9, 1958 in Lawrence, KS. He preceded her in death on March 27, 1990. She is survived by her children, Bruce (Sue), Steve, Mike Arbuthnot of Topeka; Alvin (Paula) Holmes, Glen Holmes of Council Grove; step-children, Nancy (Jim) Rose, Topeka, Gary Holmes, Hutchinson; 14 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and sister, Bonnie Stritenberger, Ft. Myers, Fl. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and a son, Robert Arbuthnot. Norma Jean was a homemaker while raising her children and later worked at the Topeka Y.M.C.A. for 22 years as a service representative. She enjoyed watching baseball, watching and playing with her grandchildren, cooking, and crossword puzzles.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday July 21, at Comisky Cemetery near Council Grove. A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, at Dove Cremation & Funeral Service, 4020 SW 6th Ave., Topeka, KS 66606.
