Norma R. Walter, 89, of Topeka, passed away Tuesday, September 5, 2017.
She was born January 26, 1928 in Big Springs, KS, the daughter of Raymond and Carrie Cree.
Norma was a graduate of Lecompton High School and was a lifelong member of Big Springs United Methodist Church.
She married Melvin M. Walter on July 21, 1946. He survives.
She and her family enjoyed traveling, camping and spending time outdoors. She was also fond of celebrating holidays with her family as well as attending church activities.
She and her husband owned and operated Bluegrass Motor Mart in Big Springs.
Other survivors include her children, Sylvia J. Norwood (Milton) of Lecompton, Rhonda L. Henderson (Gary) of Lecompton and Nathan R. Walter (Michelle) of Topeka; 5 grandchildren, Michele Harrison (Darrin), Jennifer Hodson (Kevin), Tracey Henderson (Jerika), Amanda Taylor (Josh) and Kayla Russell (Keven); 11 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her son Arliss Walter and daughter Marla Walter and siblings Lawrence, Glenn and Ruth Cree.
Mrs. Walter will lie in state after 4:00 pm, Friday, September 8 at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 pm that evening. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, September 9 at Big Springs United Methodist Church with burial to follow in East View Cemetery.
