Norman Souter Jessop died unexpectedly September 5, 2011 in Grand Marais, MN.
He was born May 18, 1937 in Melrose, MA to Norman H.B. and Ruth Elizabeth Jessop. His early life was spent in Melrose and Rowley, MA. He graduated from Governor Dummer Academy in Byfield, MA. Norman received a BA in Sociology from Boston University, an MA from Northeastern University and a PhD. in Psychology from the University of Illinois. He married Alyce Ann Lallman in 1975.
He worked for the Department of Veterans Affairs as a Clinical Psychologist for 31 years in a number of different capacities in Omaha, NE, Lexington, KY, Waco, TX and Wichita, KS, retiring in 2001. He was Chief of Psychology in Waco, TX for 10 years and his clinical area of practice was Behavioral Medicine.
Norman was a person of many interests. He had a lifelong love of music and performed as a vocal soloist frequently during his early years. He pursued photography avidly, winning numerous ribbons for his work, was an avid reader and had an interest in Alternative Healing Modalities.
He was a member of Grace Episcopal Cathedral in Topeka, KS and was affiliated with Devotion Lodge A.F. and A.M. and York Rite in Lexington, KY, numerous professional associations and the Shawnee Choral Society. He was a Licensed Unity Teacher.
He is survived by his wife, three children, Alison (Bill) Rappleyea, Fisher, IL, Peter (Lucinda) Jessop, Valley Village, CA, and Kristen (Jim) McCarty, Portland, OR, nine grandchildren Rebecca (Scott) Gercken, Benjamin (Megan) Rappleyea, Daniel and Elizabeth Rappleyea, Noah and Aidan LaBella, Graham Jessop, Drew and Sam McCarty, and one great-grandchild, Julianna Gercken. He is also survived by his sister Ann (Bill) Phillips, Lake City FL, brother-in-law Bill (Janice) Lallman, nieces Kara Lallman and Ruth Ann (Duane) Delawter and nephews Bill and John Phillips.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 15, 2011 at Grace Episcopal Cathedral.
The family suggests expressions of sympathy be sent to Grace Episcopal Cathedral, 701 SW 8th Avenue, Topeka, KS 66603, Silent Unity 1901 Blue Parkway, Unity Village, MO 64065 or a charity of the donor's choice. Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel is assisting with arrangements.
