Norrene Elaine Kern, 80, of Topeka, passed away on Sunday, September 1, 2019. She was born March 15, 1939 in Alta Vista, Kansas, the daughter of Carl William and Naomi Marie (Syring) Peterson.
Norrene graduated from Manhattan High School. She was employed by Kansas State Printing Service before retiring in 1996. She attended the First Baptist Church in Dodge City, Kansas and Fairlawn Church of the Nazarene in Topeka.
Norrene married Kenneth Edwin Kern on December 24, 1961. He preceded her in death on February 1, 1990. She was also preceded in death by her granddaughter, Christina and her siblings, Marilyn Bletscher, Dennis Peterson and Lloyd Peterson.
Survivors include children, Cheri (David) Beason of Topeka, Christopher (Liz) Kern of North Carolina, six grandchildren, Nicholas (Chrissy), Joseph (Dyanna), Danielle (Matthew), Brittney (Kasey), Brock (Angel), Connor, fourteen great-grandchildren and her siblings, Carl Peterson of Texas, Ronald Peterson of Virginia, Donald Peterson of Kansas, Ned Peterson of Kansas and Vonda Hovey of Kansas.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 6, 2019 at Dove Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave. Graveside committal services will follow at 1:30 p.m. at East Templin Cemetery in Wabaunsee County, Kansas. The family will receive friends from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. Thursday, September 5, 2019 at the funeral home.
