Novallene Bernhardt, 86, of Tecumseh, passed away on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka. She was born on August 16, 1924 in El Dorado Springs, MO, the daughter of Scott and Essie Wharton Casey.
She attended Jones School near Big Springs. She was employed at the Fairfax Aviation Factory in Kansas City, KS during WWII and built B-25 Bombers.
She married her husband, Harold J. Bernhardt on July 2, 1944 at the Stull United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker and assisted her husband on the family farm for over 66 years. He survives. Other survivors include their children, Darleen M. Bernhardt and Harold D. Bernhardt, both of Tecumseh and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings; Olin, Wharton, Cecil, Emmett and Ella.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Highland Heights Christian Church. Burial will follow in Zion Cemetery southeast of Topeka. Novallene will lie in state after Noon Monday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel where the family will receive friends from 7:00-8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to Midland Care Hospice Services, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606 or to Highland Heights Christian Church, 2930 SE Tecumseh Rd., Tecumseh, KS 66542 or to the American Cancer Society, 1315 SW Arrowhead Rd., Topeka, KS 66604.
