Onita Upshaw

Onita Mary (Warbritton) Upshaw, 93, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, March 26, 2006 at Stormont-Vail Hospital.

She was born December 30, 1912 in Greeley, KS the daughter of Charles and Nellie Baum. She was married to Claude Warbritton in 1931. He preceded her in death in 1967.

Onita graduated from Chicago School of Nursing in 1959. She worked at Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa 10 years before moving to Topeka in 1961. She was employed at St. Francis Hospital for 16 years retiring in 1977. She later worked for the Shawnee County Health Clinic.

She was president of the St. Francis Credit Union and a member of the St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary Unit.

In 1976 she was married to Wilber Upshaw. He preceded her in death in 1990. Survivors include two sons, Marion Warbritton, Sioux Falls, SD; Fred Warbritton, Topeka; one daughter, Claudine Dunn, Topeka; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at the Mt. Hope Cemetery. Mrs. Upshaw will lie in state from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Newcomer Family Funeral Home, 4020 SW 6th, Topeka.
