Opal Lorna Holland, 87, Topeka, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2008 at Select Specialty Hospital surrounded by her family.
Opal was born November 1, 1920 in Baileyville, KS, the daughter of Elmer and Pearl Waters Skillett.
She married Clifton A. "Tip" Holland on February 7, 1938 in Tecumseh, NE. He died September 15, 2006.
In her earlier years she worked on the farm alongside Tip in the Vermillion and Centralia area. In 1956 they moved to Topeka. She then worked for Falley's Bakery on North Kansas Avenue and the Supermarket on Gage Blvd. for 32 years.
Survivors include two daughters, JoAnn Shumaker of Topeka and Katherine Holder of Green Valley, AZ; four grandchildren, Roger Shumaker (Susan) of Topeka, Janis Ackerman (Eric) of Topeka, Steve Holder (Jean) of Denver, and Stephanie Allison of Denver; eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson, a sister, and four brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Newcomer Family Funeral Home. Interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Mrs. Holland will lie in state from noon to 4:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
