O.R. "Bud" Bargman, 81, Topeka, passed away on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at Homestead Assisted Living.

Bud was born April 26, 1931 in Clay Center, Kansas, the son of Albert Rolf and Martha Mary Christina (Naegele) Bargman. He graduated from Beatrice High School in 1948. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1952-1954 attaining the rank of Sergeant First Class, and received several medals for his service.

He was associated with Hawkins Optical Laboratories for 62 years, fabricating prescription eyewear for Optometrists, Ophthalmologists, and Opticians. He was the co-owner and worked in production and sales from 1949-1968 before becoming President in 1969. In 1992 he became Chairman of the Board. He retired in 2010. He was Past President of the National Optical Laboratories Association, where Bud and Marvene co-chaired the OLA Centennial Convention; served as Liaison to the American Optometric Association and the American Optometric Student Association; Board member of the See To Learn Foundation and received the Kansas Optometric Association 1994 "Vision Service Award"; was a Charter Member of the Optical Laboratories Association "Optical Pioneers"; held an "Honorary Membership" in the Kansas Optometric Association, and was the 2003 recipient of the "Vision Service Award" from the Heart of American Contact Lens Society.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and served on the Topeka Lutheran School Board for over 15 years, including President from 1971-72.

Bud married Marvene Renfro on June 20, 1954 in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include son, Kevin Bargman and wife, Jody, Topeka; daughter, Cheri van der Feltz and husband, Lennard, Tempe, AZ; four grandchildren, Clarisse, Francesca, Cassandra and Lennard "Neil"; and a sister, Joydene Carlson, Topeka. He was preceded in death by sisters, Mirla Whitehead and Ruth Arvilla.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Thursday, May 24, 2012 at Mount Hope Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. Bud will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road after 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 and visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm
