Oren Bame, Jr., 83, of Topeka, passed away on Monday, November 26, 2007 at a Topeka care facility. He was born on March 27, 1924 in Overbrook, the son of Oren and Eva Andrews Bame, Sr. He was an Army veteran of WWII. Oren resided in Topeka since 1946. He was employed by the Colmery O'Neil VA Medical Center for 17 years and then was employed by Martin Tractor Company for 20 years before retiring in 1986. Oren married June Cowdrick on July 1, 1944 in Belmar, New Jersey. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Oren Bame, III and Richard Bame and one daughter Shirley Brown all of Topeka, 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren, one sister, Loretta Shoemaker of Eudora and one brother, Joseph Bame, Sr. of Topeka. Oren was preceded in death by one sister, Addie Mae Brown. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday at the Mount Hope Chapel Mausoleum where military honors will be presented by a burial detail from Fort Riley, KS. Inurnment will take place in Mount Hope Cemetery. Oren will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Heart of America Hospice, 3715 S.W. 29th St., Topeka, KS 66614.
