Orland Joseph Peterka, 92, of Manhattan, Kansas, passed away November 22, 2011. Father Peter O'Donnell will celebrate two memorial masses for his grandfather. A memorial mass will be held in the chapel at Meadowlark Hills, 2121 Meadowlark Rd, Manhattan, Kansas on Thursday, November 24, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. A second mass will be held at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 1321 North Stratford Lane, Wichita, Kansas on Saturday, November 26, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. which will be preceded by a rosary at 10:30 a.m.
Orland was born August 23, 1919 at Cuba, Kansas to Joseph and Agnes (Barton) Peterka. He graduated from Manhattan High School and Kansas State University with a degree in engineering. He was employed by Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, Kansas. He married Jean Elizabeth Werly in Wichita on September 25, 1943 and was a member of St. Mary Magdalen Church.
Orland is survived by his wife, Jean of Manhattan; three daughters, Carole Knightley, Wichita, KS, Nancy Anderson, Tulsa, OK, and Kim O'Donnell, Manhattan, KS; seven grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and his brother, Clifford Peterka of Denver, CO.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Seven Dolors Catholic Church, 731 Pierre, Manhattan, Kansas 66502.
