Orville McHenry, 94, of Topeka, KS, passed away Friday, September 17, 2010.
Orville was born December 8, 1915, in Ringgold County, Iowa, to Floyd and Ora (Crecelius) McHenry. He graduated from Emporia State Teacher's College with a Bachelor's in Physical Education and the University of Minnesota with a Master's in Education. Orville was united in marriage to Rosalie Hiller in 1941. They were married for sixty-five years until Rosalie passed away in 2006. He served in the US Army from 1942-1946. Orville was a PE teacher at Wyandotte High School from 1946-1975. He enjoyed photography, fishing, camping, repairing watches and clocks, and renovating homes into apartment buildings and then managing them.
His surviving family includes his two daughters and sons-in-law: Gail and Bob Strader of Lee's Summit, MO; and Donna and Steve Reichle of Auburn, KS. Other survivors include granddaughter, Jennifer Strader Lozano and husband Luis, grandson, Steven Strader and wife Krista, granddaughter, Morgan Reichle Bonnell and husband Tim, grandson, Cole Reichle and wife Abby, great-grandchildren, Daniel Lozano, Mason Strader, and Timothy "Trip" Bonnell, III, brother, Charles McHenry and wife Vera, and sister, Arlene Kitchen.
A service celebrating his life will be held on Friday, September 24, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at Brewster Place Chapel, 1205 SW 29th Street, Topeka, KS 66611. Private family inurnment will be held at Mount Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to Emporia State University in care of Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road, Topeka, KS 66614, which will be used to help fund a teaching scholarship.
