Otis E. Bricker passed away Sunday, January 25, 2015 in Topeka at the age of 97. Otis was born June 9, 1917 in Waterloo, Iowa to Anna M. Weber and Benjamin F. Bricker.
At an early age, he moved to Plattsburg, Missouri and then to the Kansas City area where he attended Westport High School. He served his country in World War II from 1941 - 1945 in the Hdg. Co. 2nd Btn. 1st Infantry 6th Division. Otis graduated from Finley Engineering College in Kansas City, Missouri on the GI Bill and entered the hearing aid business in Kansas City as a salesman.
Otis married Doris E. Shipley in 1949 and served as Vice President of Chas. P. Shipley Saddlery & Mercantile Co. at the Kansas City Stockyards from 1953 - 1959. Otis and Doris moved to Topeka in 1959 where he started the Bricker Hearing Aid Company and worked until his retirement in 1989 also serving as a past president of the Kansas Hearing Aid Dealer Assn. Otis and Doris were members of the First Congregational Church in Topeka.
Otis is preceded in death by his wife, Doris, his daughter Marjorie and two brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his son; Clyde and his wife Linda of Meriden, Kansas, two grandchildren Anna of Ottawa, Kansas and Benjamin and his wife Marcia of Wichita, Kansas and two great-grandchildren, Bella Linda (5) and Kai Otis (2).
There will be two celebrations of Otis's life held. The first service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 29, 2015 at the Brewster Place Main Building Chapel where the family will receive friends following the service. A second service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 30, 2015 at First Congregational Church. Private inurnment will take place at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Benevolent Care Fund at the Brewster Foundation, 1205 SW 29th St., Topeka, Kansas 66611. Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel is assisting the family.
