Pantaleon "Leon" Rios, 81, of Topeka, passed away Monday, February 6, 2023.
Leon was born June 4, 1941, in Orange Grove, Texas, the son of Nestor and Juanita (Curiel) Rios. He was raised in Alice, Texas and married Emilia Gonzalez in 1961. They moved to Topeka, Kansas in 1966 where they raised their family. He retired from USD 501.
Leon is survived by his wife, Emilia Rios of the home; sister, Frances Perez; daughter, Margarita (Jim) Steck; son-in-law, Paul Johnson; grandchildren, Cindy (Justin) Steck, Kathy (Jesse) Steck, Kelly (Chris) Downey, Sarah (Adam) Shepard, Emily (Jace) Holmes and Lauren (Richard) Beskow; great-grandchildren, Nevaeh Steck, Aspen Downey, Lane Downey, Brooks Downey, Jackson Sowers, Adam Shepard, Jr. and many other family members in Texas.
Leon was preceded in death by his parents; son, Carlos Rios (August 4, 2019); daughter, Daisy Johnson (August 12, 2021) and sister, Aurelia Balboa.
Leon enjoyed watching westerns, reading, listening to Mexican music, fishing and telling jokes and stories. He especially loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Honoring Leon's request, cremation is planned. A memorial ceremony will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, February 10, 2023 at Dove Cremations and Funerals Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd., Topeka, KS 66610.
