Patricia Ann Vangaasbeek

Patricia Ann "Pat" VanGassbeek, 78, Topeka, died Monday, March 17, 2008 at her home.

She was born Feb. 27, 1930 in Atchison, the daughter of Ronald and Gayle O'Neil Henderson. She graduated from Mt. St. Scholastica Academy in Atchison in 1947, and received her RN from St. Joseph School of Nursing, St. Joseph, MO, in 1952.

Pat was the first Director of Student Health Services at Benedictine College, Atchison, and worked for many years as a Certified Addictions Nurse at The Menninger Clinic, retiring in 1995.

Pat was an active volunteer in the community and enjoyed her many activities with the PT Crusier Club and the Sunflower Chic's Chapter of the Red Hat Society.

She married Laverne Van Gassbeek on Jan. 17, 1953 in Atchison.

Survivors include her children, Victoria VanGaasbeek of St. Louis, and Michael VanGaasbeek of Austin, TX; six grandchildren, Curtis, Amanda, Melissa, Logan, Michael, and Nicholas; three great-grandchildren, Presley, Caroline, and Lily; he brother, Ronald Henderson of Enid, OK; and a dear friend, Elizabeth Kane.

Cremation is planned. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm Friday at Newcomer Family Funeral Home. Inurnment services will be 10:00 am Saturday at the Serenity Columbarium at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery.
