Patricia Ellen(Mullen) Mcpherson

In the arms of an angel, Patricia Ellen (Mullen) McPherson, joined her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in Heaven, on Friday, July 8, 2016. She died peacefully surrounded by family and friends, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born September 7, 1948, in Madison, Wisconsin, the daughter of William James and June Ellen (Ishmael) Mullen.

Pat was a 1966 graduate of St. Joseph High School in Shawnee, Kansas, and in 1970 received her bachelor's degree in Art Education from the University of Kansas, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. Her first teaching position was at St. Ann in Prairie Village, Kansas, before joining the Auburn-Washburn School District 437 in Topeka, as an art teacher.

Pat married her college sweetheart and love of her life, Bruce McPherson on June 17, 1977, in Topeka.

For 30 years, Pat and Bruce divided their time between Kansas and California, where they spent the last 15 years wintering at Bighorn in Palm Desert, which became her home away from home.

Pat was an active member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Topeka and Sacred Heart in Palm Desert. She was a sustaining member of Topeka Junior League and active in Chapter DV of PEO Topeka.

Pat had a passion for art that she passed on to her son, Scott, who is an artist residing in Los Angeles. She also enjoyed traveling, Pilates, genealogy research, reading, and Bible study. Pat was an avid knitter and so enjoyed her knitting companions, especially her knitting buddies in Indian Wells, California. She also enjoyed golf, KU basketball, and the Kansas City Royals.

Pat's greatest joy was being a wife and mother. One of her greatest treasures was time spent with close friends and family. Pat was a sister in Christ and exemplified what it must be like to walk with our Lord and Savior. Her love and support, kindness, humility, and respect, were her true virtues. So many were blessed to have known and loved her. She will be greatly missed.
Survivors include husband, Bruce, of Topeka, Kansas; son, Scott, of Los Angeles, California; mother, June Mullen, of Leawood, Kansas; sisters, Barbara Mullen, of Destin, Florida, and Margaret Mullen, of Denver, Colorado; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, William; brothers, James and Kevin Mullen; and sister, Cathleen Mullen.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Friday, July 15, 2016 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 5973 SW 25th Street, Topeka, Kansas 66614. Private entombment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Rosary will be prayed at 5:00 p.m., Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road, Topeka, Kansas 66610, where the family will receive guests from 6:00-7:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Midland Care or Christ the King Catholic Church, both in Topeka.

The family would like to thank their friends and the community of Topeka for all of their support, and a special thank you to the staff of Midland Care for their passionate and dedicated care.
