Patrick Joseph "Pat" Mead died at home, February 22, 2017, in Topeka surrounded by his family. He was 86.
Pat was born on January 3rd, 1931, in Mobile, AL, to Arthur Edward and Augusta Cecelia (Cleveland) Mead. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. After his discharge, he worked as a civilian employee for the U.S. Air Force until his retirement in 1978.
Pat married Delores "Dotty" Waterman on June 29th, 1963, in Bern, Kansas. After retirement, Pat and Dotty moved from Virginia to her home state of Kansas, first to Netawaka and then Topeka. Pat was a raconteur, a KU fan, and an avid gardener. He enjoyed playing cards, talking with his children every week, and eating his black-eyed peas every New Year's Day.
Pat is survived by his wife Dotty, their children Brian (Launi) of Olympia, WA, Theresa (Rodney) Long of Deatsville, AL, and Michael of Topeka; grandson Brandon Beasley; step-grandchildren Jesse Kinney, Calvin (Richele) Kinney, Matt (Ariel) Long, Justin (Miranda) Long, Jessica Long; step-great-grandchildren Wylin Kinney, Clay Long; his sister Ethel Helveston of Mobile, AL; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Arthur and Maurice and his sister June Graham.
Pat requested no services. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you donate directly to the American Heart Association or the Wounded Warrior Project.
