Paul Kendal Hoffsommer

Paul Kendal Hoffsommer, 97, of Overbrook, passed away on Sunday, October 30, 2005 at Brookside Manor in Overbrook. He was born on January 26, 1908, near Stull, the son of Adam and Mary Manshardt Hoffsommer. Soon after graduating from Topeka High School, he was employed by the Santa Fe offices in Topeka where he worked until his retirement in 1970. He was a member of Grace E.U.B. Church and later Shawnee Heights United Methodist Church. He was united in marriage to Irene Roller on February 24, 1934. They shared over 71 years of marriage, much of it in the Lake Shawnee area. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Dean Hoffsommer and his wife, Addie of Overbrook, Gary Hoffsommer and his wife, Karen of rural Overbrook, six grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, thirty-one great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Shawnee Heights United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Topeka Cemetery. Mr. Hoffsommer will lie in state after 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening.
