Paul Schley, 67, of Alma, passed away on Feb. 16, 2010 in Topeka. He was born on June 19, 1942, in Huron, South Dakota, the son of Sylvester and Belva (Kelley) Schley. On July 15, 1995, in Alma, KS, he married Mary Remington. She survives.
Paul was born and raised in the Huron, SD area, moving and traveling throughout the Mid West before settling in Kansas. He had worked for A.B. Hudson for 38 years, before retiring in 2004. He was a lifetime member of Brushbusters Saddle Club and trail boss for the "On the Trail to a Cure" trail ride. In 2005, he lived his dream of driving a team of horses and a wagon from his home in Kansas to his birthplace of South Dakota. Over 530 mile trip, he met helpful locals, and encountered many stories in which he shared with his family. With this trip, he made many local newspapers and was often the talk of the town. On this long trip, he was surrounded by his loving family and beloved horses, Dolly and Nellie. He will be dearly missed by everyone.
Survivors include his wife Mary; children, Mary Ann (Jim) Posch of Council Grove, Dorine Schley of Alma, Gerald (Brittany) Schley of Lake City, FL, Darwin Schley of Alma, and Loretta Remington of Alma; 10 grandchildren; one great granddaughter . Also surviving are brothers, Beryl, Jimmy, and Kenneth; sister, Delores; previous wife, Elsie Ellis of Council Grove; and oodles of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and one sister.
Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 20 at St. John Lutheran Church, Alma. Visitation will be from 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at the church.
