Paula Jeanette (Perkins) Clanton, 55, of Topeka, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2021 at her home after a courageous year-long battle with cancer.
She was born October 21, 1965, in Topeka, Kansas, to Dennis and Janet (Carr) Perkins.
Paula graduated from Topeka West High School in 1984. She attended Washburn University where she earned a bachelor's degree in social work. Paula earned her master's degree in social work from the University of Kansas in 1992. Upon graduation, she was accepted into the post-master's fellowship training program at the Karl Menninger School of Psychiatry & Mental Health Sciences. She earned her Licensed Specialist Clinical Social Worker (LSCSW) licensure and worked for the Menninger Clinic for six years. In 1998, she opened a private practice at Stonestreet Professional Offices.
But no education or training would prepare Paula for the most important and rewarding role she would have in her lifetime – that of being a mom to Emily and Elijah. Emily was born in 1998 and Elijah in 2000 and over the years she loved her children with abandon, and always encouraged their interests and supported their endeavors. If there was a game or a performance, Paula was there. Her presence will remain strong with Emily and Elijah throughout their lives.
Paula enjoyed gardening, home improvement projects, physical fitness, traveling, rooting on the KU Jayhawks and spoiling her dog, Zeus.
Survivors include her father and step-mother, Dennis and Lorraine (Rollins) Perkins of Topeka; children, Emily Clanton and Elijah Clanton of Topeka; sibling Melissa (Perkins) Racer of Lee's Summit; nephew Quinten Racer of Lee's Summit; step-sister Lisa Lux (Shannon), and their children, Hali and Zack of Topeka; and a step-brother Tim Skinner of Topeka.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Janet (Carr) Perkins, who will always be in our hearts, as will Paula.
Honoring Paula's request, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Celebration of Life will begin at 6:00 p.m., followed by a small reception on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at Dove Cremations and Funerals, Southwest Chapel, 3700 S.W. Wanamaker Rd., Topeka.
